Think your a true Olympics fan? Then please name all 28 sports. Got ya! Don’t worry we’ll help you out, seeing how the official list of sports has just been posted. The sports are all somewhat different and make the competition more interesting, varying from lesser known competitions like archery, to more popular sports like basketball. Check out the full list here, where you can also find info about each sport.

2012, however, will be grim year for baseball and softball, who won’t get featured in the olympics anymore, starting from the next competition in London.  They are the first sports to be axed from the Olympics since polo in 1936.

Their place in the olympics has been shortlived, with baseball making it’s debut in Barcelona ‘92 and softball just four years later. The IOC plans to cut the programme to 25 sports by the 2020 Olympics, leaving a number of federations in fear of losing the unique exposure offered by the Games.

Seems the main problem for the two sports is the lack of international participation, despite their huge popularity in the US.
